Welcome to Nidderdale National Landscape

Nidderdale National Landscape lies on the eastern fringe of the Pennines in North Yorkshire, encompassing dramatic upland moorland, tranquil river valleys, ancient woodlands, reservoirs and traditional pastoral farmland. Its sense of remoteness, ecological richness and cultural continuity make it one of England’s most distinctive protected landscapes.

The Nidderdale National Landscape Management Plan prioritises nature recovery, climate mitigation and adaptation, sustainable land management, heritage conservation and community wellbeing. Particular emphasis is placed on upland habitat restoration, species recovery, peatland and grassland management, water quality, and ensuring local communities are supported as active custodians of the landscape.

The National Landscape team works collaboratively with farmers, landowners, water companies, local authorities, conservation organisations and community groups to design and deliver projects that generate long-term environmental and social outcomes. For businesses, Nidderdale acts as a delivery partner and problem-solver, translating corporate investment into tangible results for biodiversity, climate resilience, natural capital and rural livelihoods, all supported by robust governance and place-based expertise.

Nidderdale is also designated an International Dark Sky Reserve, strengthening its value for nature, wellbeing and low-impact tourism.
